Artist bio

Zengzhu Wen (b.1957) is a Whangaparaoa Peninsula based artist. Zengzhu grew up in China and studied at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. Graduating in 1982 with a degree in environmental design he went on to become a Professor in Urban Landscape Design as well as working as an art director for a number of design firms.
Throughout his academic career his work and writing has appeared in various art books and magazines. During his design career he has always painted with a particular focus on watercolour. This interest was sparked in his youth watching his mother, an artist who painted traditional Chinese watercolour.
Zengzhu is now semi-retired which permits him more time to paint. The scenery of New Zealand, flowers and animals are now his main inspiration. The love of his second home in New Zealand can be seen in his lyrical watercolours that express the life and beauty of Aotearoa.
