Artist bio

Kym Burke is a visual artist who is drawn to exploring perspective and mapping out elements that
consider and develop new terrain. Using a range of techniques, she purposefully selects materials
and design elements that offer contrasts and visual disparities. This includes carving, painting,
cutting and reconstructing work. She is interested in art as a tactile process, bringing to life a visual
image that speaks to human experience.
Kym has participated in Whitireia Diploma in Applied Arts, Browne School of Art and Toipoto
Creative Careers programmes. In 2020 Kym was one of three primary winners of the Hibiscus and
Bays Art Awards and has also been a finalist in the Walker and Hall Art awards. Her work has been
exhibited around New Zealand, including a solo show at Arthaus Contemporary Gallery in 2024.
Originally from Pōneke/Wellington she currently works from her home studio in Arkles Bay.
